The only pre election "surprises" come from the not-so loyal opposition, and are usually blown out of the water immediately, thereby fulfilling the Law of Unintended Consequences promise. The demonstrably "fake but accurate" Texas ANG Dan Rather debacle comes to mind first. We’ve been hearing this nonsense about Fall surprises by the Bush Administration for three election cycles now.

The only pre election “surprises” come from the not-so loyal opposition, and are usually blown out of the water immediately, thereby fulfilling the Law of Unintended Consequences promise.
