Actually, I think I'm forced to agree that with the Foley mess, the Republican's hand is being forced into one of the only options they have left for an October surprise - attacking Iran.

God help us if I'm right. I hope I am not, but this October surprise wouldn't surprise me at all.

Does the stock market seem high to anyone given the earnings forecasts?
I wonder if the markets begin falling starting in the next few days and continue into election time...will this impact the outcome?
If housing slows and current values decline...how many will move into foreclosure which will then hurt banks.

We've been hearing this nonsense about Fall surprises by the Bush Administration for three election cycles now.

The only pre election "surprises" come from the not-so loyal opposition, and are usually blown out of the water immediately, thereby fulfilling the Law of Unintended Consequences promise.

The demonstrably "fake but accurate" Texas ANG Dan Rather debacle comes to mind first.

I think that the October Surprise is already underway. By the third week in November, I'm sure that we'll see a reversal in gas and fuel prices.

My vote? No surprise. Or at least no surprise that's any good. If he really, really had something, why hype it? Must be that he thinks the hype has value. If Bush has Osama or anything like that, it'll speak for itself and no need to buck up the troops. If he doesn't have anything, bucking up the troops is the best he's got. They know they're going to get crushed. Limiting the damage by rallying the base is the best they can do.

Given that for a surprise like this to work, Rove and company must have fore-knowledge of it, I think there are several possibilities: 1) The US announces that it is in possession of the dead body of Osama Bin Laden who die from natural causes 2) Bush announces a major terrorist plot was recently foiled or 3) Some previously unreleased or "secret" report will be "leaked" outlining how the economy has been improving or that several prominent Democrats are in cahoots with terrorists.
