Cartoon: Secondhand Smoke
By Anthony | May 7th, 2007 | 8:45 amOn Wednesday, the North Carolina House voted against a proposed anti-smoking measure that, among other things, would have banned smoking in public restaurants and bars.
I was from Delaware before we moved down to North Carolina, and there has been a similar smoking ban in effect up there for quite some time. I can sympathize with the idea that a business owner should be able to do what he wants in his place of business; however, it was nice being able to enjoy a meal without choking down cigarette smoke at the same time.

I have to say that the smoking thing is the one thing about North Carolina that really bugs me. I’m not sure what I expect living in the tobacco belt as we do, but I really hate it when I sit down to some yummie food somewhere and my throat starts closing up because of someone smoking nearby. Like the lottery, I have faith that it will eventually happen, its just a question of when.
