MySQL Slow Queries

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

My webhost tells me that my blog has been causing some bogginess with my database as a result of some slow queries. I think the queries are ones dealing with comment spam, so I’ve closed the comments on a bunch of older posts to try to alleviate the problem a bit.
Next, I need to figure [...]

Site Maintenance

Friday, October 26th, 2007

I’m going to be moving Plead the First to a new server this weekend, beginning tonight, so commenting may be disabled, and access to the site may be a bit dicey at times. If you have problems, try again later. Need to contact me and it can’t wait? Try the email address over in the [...]

ConvergeSouth Film Festival

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

For me, the highlight of this year’s ConvergeSouth was definitely the film festival organized by Andy Coon. Don’t worry if you missed it – Andy’s taken the time to post video of most of the films. My personal favorites were the Deadly Finger entries, the Banana Bus, and the Katrina film. There are other great [...]

Commenting problems

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

Someone just emailed me saying that my blog isn’t accepting comments anymore. I tested it, and there does indeed seem to be something wrong. I apologize to anyone who’s had problems, and I’ll try to fix it as soon as I can. Very strange, since I don’t think I’ve changed anything recently…
Update: Ok, it should [...]

Bloggers in the Wild

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

Thursday night I went with Ged and a few other folks from work to see a taping of NPR’s “Wait Wait… Don’t Tell me!” at Wake Forest’s Wait Chapel. It was a great show, and fun to see what goes into making an episode. They had the Hornets’ Chris Paul as a guest. Not being [...]

Get to Know Your City Council Candidates

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

Joe Guarino has begun receiving and posting responses to his City Council Candidate Questionnaires. So far he has answers from Robbie Perkins and Angela Carmichael. This was a great idea, and I’m glad to see that at least some of the candidates are participating.
Update: Joe wrote to point out that Lance Jones responded last week [...]

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Seymour Hardy Floyd is blogging again after a long absence. If you have any interest in what’s going on locally in the Greensboro area, you need to read Hardy’s thoughtful take on matters. Check out Seymour’s Purple Mind II.

My “New” Website

Friday, June 29th, 2007

One-Button Mouse was a site I started many years ago where I used to showcase my icons and desktop pictures – artwork for customizing your computer. I regularly and lovingly updated the site, but eventually One-Button Mouse began suffering from some serious neglect. I stopped returning its calls, and eventually suggested maybe we could just [...]

Rearrangement

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

Last year, I was putting out a new cartoon pretty much every week. With all the other demands on my time, this became something of a grind. Think, stare into space, think more, sketch, ink, Photoshop, twitch a bit, then repeat – non-stop, whether a topic had caught my interest or not.
So I spoke with [...]

Republicans Spamming NC Blogs?

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

Over the past several months on many local blogs I’ve noticed comments allegedly posted by Nathan Tabor. Tabor made an unsuccessful run for the State Congress not too long ago, and is the founder of The Conservative Voice, a shrill bastion of Republicanism.
One thing these blog comments have had in common is that they [...]
