Downtown Greensboro Dinner Recommendation?
By Anthony | November 8th, 2005 | 1:28 pmMrs. Stew and I are going out to dinner tonight, and had hoped to find something nice in downtown Greensboro. Preferably someplace charming. Slightly fancy is fine, but cozy is good too. I’ve decided to harness the Power of the Blog to get some recommendations. Comment now – our culinary fate is in your hands!

My personal favorite is Solaris. The owners are friends of mine and I pimp the place any chance I get. The food is also excellent. I reccomend the Hoisin Chicken with a pint of Stella Artois.
It has been a while, but 223 on Elm Street is a little fancier with a very ecclectic menu.
Keep it in the short grass.

Couldn’t tell ya. Don’t go downtown much for dinner. 🙂

There are many new places I haven’t tried yet, but of the ones I’m familiar with I’d second the Guru’s recommendation, for the place and the Hoisin Chicken. I also like Cafe Europa. The food is good, the wine list extensive and dining on the terrace this time of year is a treat. Liberty Oak is good too.

No issue with any of the recommendations above, but I would add Undercurrent. It is on the more expensive side, but provides plenty of coziness and a romantic setting.

Undercurrent.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. After looking over the options, Undercurrent was my first choice. However, they didn’t have any early reservations available, so we ended up going to 223 South Elm. It was great! Very interesting menu. I had the trout which had a black pepper goat cheese on top that was amazing. I would defenitely recommend the restaurant.
Afterwards we walked by Cafe Europa to check it out, and it looked like a really nice place. I’d like to try to get there while the weather’s still warm to try out the terrace as Roch suggested.
We’ve been to Solaris twice, and we enjoyed it quite a bit. Very tasty tapas. We’ll be going back there more, but I wanted to try someplace new tonight.

Because I assume you’ll dine downtown again, Cara Michele recommends…
Ganache. Black beans cakes (with lime-infused sour cream and tomato coulis), grilled asparagus, and baked sweet potato (with cinnamon butter). Then chocolate truffle cake for dessert. The atmosphere is quiet and casual, the service is excellent, and the food is beyond delicious. Just try to walk past that dessert case without looking back! The meal I listed is just one of many amazingly yummy choices. Go Ganache! You shall not be disappointed. 😉
