Flying Snakes

So yeah, I Googled it and learned more than you might think you want to know about snakes that fly. Weird stuff.

Definitely weird, but very cool. You probably saw this site, which was the top Google result:

They have some movies of the snakes in flight. The first few concentrate on the takeoffs, which disappointed me, because they make it look like the snake is just sort of jumping. But then I watched the movies of the actual gliding portion of the snake’s jump – very impressive. They seem to be able to glide a long way, and can even turn in the air.

In the comment next to the picture they wonder why the snakes leave their perch and hurtle their bodies thru the air. Silly question. They fly because they can and they like to. I would love to fly, wouldn’t you?
