Conspiracies

I’ve noticed a few people linking recently to videos offering conspiracy theories related to the events of 9/11. While I think the Bush administration took full advantage of what happened that day to increase their power and move their agenda forward, I seriously doubt that they were in any way actively a part of the plot.

As Roch points out in the comments on Greensboring.com, though the conspiracy theories point to allegedly unanswered questions about what happened on 9/11, “if the [conspiracy] theories put forth … were the generally accepted explanations, they too wouldn’t be without their unanswered questions and inconsistencies.” We don’t have perfect knowledge – there are always going to be unanswered questions.

Furthermore, I’m not confident enough in the competence of the current administration to believe that they could have successfully pulled off any sort of conspiracy of the magnitude suggested by many of these videos. Even if they were more competent, there would simply be too many loose ends and too many people involved for the plot to stay even partially under wraps for this long.

Of course, all that is just my gut feeling. However, there are evidence-based debunkings of these conspiracy theories as well. Abovetopsecret.com has a pretty thorough refutation of the theory that something other than a Boeing 757 hit the Pentagon on 9/11.

The Bush administration is probably guilty of many things, but I don’t think taking an active role in the destruction of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon is one of them.

This is one of the rare times that you and I agree on something.

So you’re not confident in the competence of the Bush administration either?

Just kidding, of course. I know we disagree on many things, but I’m sure there’s also plenty of agreement hiding somewhere.

There were, and are, “conspiracy theories about every event in which human beings are involved. Usually as you point out there are as many holes in the theories as in the official explanation. Who really assassinated Lincoln and Kennedy? Did Roosevelt conspire with Stalin or Churchill to get the US into WWll? Did little big eyed humanoids really land in Roswell? And is the government covering it up? Are the Bible Codes for real and predicting the events of the world? You may add your own if you want, I think I’ve made my point. At some point in life you just stop speculating and admit that you will never know for sure just what is true. And in the end does it really matter.? Are those 3000 people any less dead?

“And in the end does it really matter.?”

Brenda, I think your comment is pretty much on the mark, except for this part. If it could indeed be shown that our government was behind the deaths of those 3000 people, I think it would matter a whole heck of a lot.

I agree entirely Stew, but that will never ever happen. Johnson was accused of having Kennedy assassinated. Steward was accused of having Lincoln assassinated. Beside, this one just doesn’t make any sense at all since it is presumed to have given this administration the excuse to go after Saddam to finish Daddy’s War. Yet it wasn’t used but as a side excuse. The main excuse was WMD’s ( Oh, on that topic check out Fec’s site) This is just more Bush Bashing but getting more virulent and contemptible. I really HATE that I am always defending that guy when I didn’t vote for him and don’t like him! But Darnit, fair is fair and truth is truth and these wild eyed Bashers are just getting to me.
