Dixie Chicks on the Air?
By Anthony | May 31st, 2006 | 1:24 pmThe Dixie Chicks’ new album is doing pretty well:
As Taking The Long Way debuts at #1 on the Billboard Top 200 best-selling albums chart this week, with first week’s sales of 525,829, the Dixie Chicks have become the first female group in chart history to have three albums debut at #1, breaking the record the Chicks established in 2002 when the group’s last studio album, Home, debuted at #1 and made them the first female group ever to have two albums debut at #1.
A friend of mine pointed this out to me today, and wondered why 107.5 KZL wasn’t playing anything from the album. I know that some radio stations have boycotted the Dixie Chicks, but I don’t know how our local radio stations feel about them. Anyone feel like calling in to a few stations and requesting “Not Ready to Make Nice”?

radio is so dead. most stations don’t play anything interesting… i’m buying the album and looking for a local tour date to show support instead.

I’ve already bought their album at BestBuy and bought the single the moment it came out on iTunes. I’d love to know why the radio stations still think its okay to hold a grudge against these women for simply speaking their mind especially when the public seems to be in the same frame of mind as they are.
I intend to call the radio stations up here in the triad and find out what the hell is going on.

Who owns KZL? All stations owned by Sony, Clear Channel, and others are under orders NOT to play any Dixie Chicks, any songs that protest the Bush Administration, or any anti-war songs no matter where they come from. It’s been that way since 2001.

KZL played a Green Day song off of American Idiot this morning, so if they have banned all anti-Bush material, they aren’t doing a very good job of sticking to it. Gedeon, be sure to post any replies you get if you do make some phone calls… I’d be interested to hear what the stations say.

“radio is so dead.” I know, right? Sean, you crack me up. 😉
Anyhoodles, I was at Starbucks today grabbing a half-caf with my teeny, not-yet-verbal niece perched happily on my hip. And then I saw it. Those brazen Dixie Chicks traitors, gazing menacingly up at us from the plastified cover of their new CD, placed provocatively and shockingly right beside the register. OMG. Starbucks is in league with the devil. And now I know it for sure. So I picked up a CD, showed it to our baby girl, and in a firm voice said, “Bad girls! Bad chicks! Unpatriotic! Bad behavior! NO! NO! NO!” She gave me a big, two-toothed grin and shook her head back and forth in the universal baby sign of “no.” Clearly, she got the message. That’s right, y’all. It’s never too early to begin programming their little baby heads with good, clean, conservative values. GB2 rocks my world. Go USA!!! 😉
Disclaimer: My daughter does not find this funny. At all. I, however, cannot seem to stop giggling.

I would find it more funny if it wasn’t for a bit from a recent NPR interview with the Dixie Chicks. About 6 minutes and 30 seconds into the interview, one of them is talking about where some of their recent lyrics came from and had this to say:

Oooooooohhhhhhh!!!! That’s awful! Yeah, now it’s way less funny by comparison. 🙁
Teaching babies to hate and cuss is sad. Bummer.

I like ’em! And the last time I looked speech was still free in this country. The DJ’s were, and are, jerks. Or maybe they don’t feel they are getting enough payola since this is now the common practice in determining who gets played on the radio. Actually the “jerks” are doing the ladies a favor because with all this hoopla they will sell more albums. They get the last laugh!

Who’s right and who’s wrong? Here’s my 2 cents worth of “freedom of speach” Seeming how we (American’s) are FREE to speak our minds!
No matter if it’s against our FELLOW LEADER, hate him or love him! September 11th happened – thousands dead, and as we ALL mourned that attack and unnecessary loss of innocent life – We have one woman that discredited every loss of life by deeming our LEADERS decisions to DEFEND OUR COUNTRY AND FREEDOM after such a horrifying attack! Not to mention this was done in England (whom may I add has stood stong by our country and leaders side!) And she has the nerve to attempt to send us “I’m not ready to make nice”?
This isn’t about “Freedom of speach” – it’s about bringing out hatred, anger, and negitivity amoung our own! Don’t we already have enough?
No matter if you agree with our War Efforts, or for them – YOU STILL LIVE IN AMERICA, where we should all stand strong and support the Military and give them the UPMOST respect! Agree or disagree -why don’t we just all agree to disagree?
If you want to change the world………then do so by showing possitive behavior, and ACTION; not slurs of stupitity! As for the song “I’m not ready to make nice” – well – NEITHER AM I!
